Relevant – This goal is relevant in that as a leader it is my job and duty to train and mentor staff so that they can be successful (which makes the company successful), and ready to take that next step up as part of some succession plan. Timeframe - This will be ongoing with a goal of completing this in 15 weeks. We will use a weekly format for the training. The second short term goal is: Specific – I will improve my communication skills. It is important that as an effective leader that I communicate often with my staff. Communication is key to success. Measurable – This will be measured by exactly how much and with who I communicate with daily. Attainable – This goal is attainable in that I communicate daily with a lot of my staff. The change will be to track exactly how much I communicate with each member of my team, and the teams that work for my direct reports. Relevant – This goal is relevant in that to be an effective leader, you have to be effective in communications skills across the corporation and with clients and suppliers. Timeframe – This will be ongoing but there will be over a 26 week timeframe. 10

A2di Two Actions to Reach SMART Goals The following two actions to reach each smart goal are as follows: For the first goal of improving mentoring skills. The first action is to develop a training needs assessment for each associate. I will complete portions as well as subject matter experts such as HR, Accounting, Sales, Contracts, etc to get an overall view of what the staff need. This is the form that I will use to mentor staff to improve their skills in leadership. This is the document that will be used in the meetings with my manager and others to determine my effectiveness in mentoring, and to see if there are gained improvements in the staff, which would be an indicator that my mentoring to them has improved. The second action I would take is to take our online corporate training (called in house university) in regional leadership. This training covers mentoring as well as a refresher in overall management at a higher level. These are eight modules to take when you can. Estimate to complete the modules would be set at 8 weeks, with support and mentorship to me by my supervisor, and reviewed weekly. The two actions to implement the second smart goal (improve communication skills) are: First, to take a course called Enhance Your Communication and Presentation Skills. (EYCPS). This is a two-day training seminar in which you are taught the skills to be an effective communicator and presenter. I have had feedback from co-workers who have taken the course and have seen how much this has improved their ability to communicate with people. This class is offered once every month. It will be a goal to be in the course and completed within the first 8 weeks. Completion is the goal.
