A column makes a point in space and makes it visible. Two columns define a spatial membrane through which we can pass. Supporting a beam, the columns delineate the edges of a transparent plane. A wall, an opaque plane, marks off a portion of amorphous space and separates here from there. A floor defines a field of space with territorial boundaries. A roof provides shelter for the volume of space beneath it.
In architectural design, these elements are organized to give a building form, differentiate between inside and outside, and the boundaries of the interior space INTERIOR SPACE Interior spaces are formed first by a building’s structure system, further defined by walls and ceiling planes, and related to other spaces by windows and doorways. Every building has a recognizable pattern of these elements and systems. Each pattern has an inherent geometry that molds or carves out the volume of space to its likeness. DESIGNING INTERIOR SPACE In planning the layout, furnishing, and enrichment of space, the architect should be highly aware of its architectural character as well as the potential for modification and enhancement. The design of interior spaces, therefore, requires an understanding of how they are formed by the building systems of the structure and enclosure. With this understanding, the Interior Architect can effectively choose to work with, continue, or even a counterpoint to the essential qualities of interior space. Architectural Interior Services (according to SPP Document 203) prescribes space plans, stacking diagrams/sections, and computations of areas for the different activities and spaces to be integrated in a building Project. lays out and prescribes furniture/built-ins/equipment for the project and prepares specifications of AI components including all floor / wall / ceiling finishes, doors and partition systems, hardware, modular or ready-assembled furniture pieces/ systems, equipment, furnishings, built-ins, fixtures, signages and graphic devices, etc. assists the Client in conducting bids or negotiations with General Contractors, sub-contractors and suppliers of building materials, furniture, equipment, fixtures, etc. checks and approves samples of materials and shop drawings of AI

INTERIOR DESIGN ELEMENTS Interior spaces within a building are defined by the architectural elements of the structure and the enclosure. These elements gives a building its forms, demarcate a portions. SPACE One of the most important element in interior design. Acts as a foundation on which the entire interior design plan is built. IT is divided into two types. -TWO DIMENSIONAL SPACE – covers floor( LxW) LINE Gives birth to forms and shapes and responsible for harmony and contrast They define shapes and act as visual guide of an interior space.
