tsunamis generated by earthquakes. For example, a tsunami hit Chile shortly after the earthquake mentioned in the previous paragraph was generated. During the tsunami of 1960 more than 1250 people died and many more people were injured. Although tsunamis do not pose as great of a threat as earthquakes they are still a powerful force of nature that has the power to kill and do great structural damage.

James Francis Geology 303 Olsen 10/18/2011 One of the other natural disasters that must be thought about is volcanic activity in Chile. There are quite a few volcanoes in Chile due to the fact that Chile lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire. Chile can trace its volcanic activity, like the earthquakes, back to its location on a subduction zone where the Nazca plate is being subducted by the South American plate. Although there are lots of volcanoes in Chile they are generally to the south and east of Valparaiso meaning that Valparaiso is not in the immediate death zones, i.e. on the slopes, of any nearby volcanoes. However, someone living in Valparaiso Chile would have to take volcanoes into account because there is still the threat of ash falling on the city. If ash were to fall on the city it could cause major damage to infrastructure and could result, depending on the amount of ash, in loss of life. The threats that volcanoes pose, much like those of the earthquakes, can be prevented or at least reduced in severity by proper planning and heeding warnings and evacuation orders. It is true that Chile has many natural disasters that at the least, disrupt many daily activities and at the greatest can result in major losses of life. However, if I was offered a fantastic job in Valparaiso, especially if it was in geology, then I would accept the job offer. I would accept the job offer because as was mentioned in the preceding paragraphs these risks can be reduced in severity by proper planning. It is true that these risks cannot be completely reduced or nullified but there is risk from natural disasters wherever you live. Therefore, if this Job is truly a fantastic one then I would accept it quickly and without equivocations.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
