The lack of physically activity leads to obesity which further deteriorates your heart muscles because the lack of exercise. All of the risk factors presented are the root causes that have lead to people being diagnosed with coronary heart disease. Demographics and Observed Disparities Who is affected? Studies have shown that there are different geographic, genders, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic variables that play a role in the incidence rates of coronary heart disease. On a geographic level Mississippi has the highest incidence rate of coronary heart disease in the United States (Heart Disease Facts, 2011). Minnesota is the state in the United States with the lowest incidence rate of coronary heart disease (Heart Disease Facts, 2011). Men are at a greater risk for coronary heart disease that pre-menopausal woman. After women have gone through menopause their incidences rate levels out to have comparable rates as men (Cardiovascular Disease, 2011). Age is also a huge component of getting CHD. “It is estimated that 87 percent of people who die of coronary heart disease are 60 and older (Cardiovascular Disease, 2011).” Another component that plays a role in observing the disparities are your socioeconomic status. Urban areas stricken with poverty are areas that have higher statistical results that show higher rates of coronary heart disease than do rural suburban areas (Heart Disease Facts, 2011). Lastly, different ethnic groups have been observed to have a greater chance of getting heart disease than other groups. Whites have the highest incidence rate of coronary heart disease while the Chinese-American population has the lowest (Ethnic Disparities, 2010). Explanation for Observed Disparities Why do these disparities exist? The geographic disparities separated the northern part of the United States form the Southern part. A major component of coronary heart disease lied in the obesity factor. The southern part of the United States has higher incidence rate of obesity
