Much like with the medical industry where they are constantly evolving, so does law enforcement. With the technology available today, forensic specialists must be able to use these systems but also break these systems, or crack them. They have to know how to find hidden encryptions. It is a field that will always be updating and evolving to meet the demands of the technological advances that are happening today and in the future. To help law enforcement they sometimes need to use forensic evidence to find their suspect or prove someone’s guilt. Sometimes they use this evidence to paint a picture of what actually happened during the crime. Technologies like DNA sequencing and fingerprinting. One technology called, Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry or LA-ICP-MS for short is a technology that can be used to take even the smallest piece and glass and break it down to its atomic structure and match it to a sample from the crime scene. With today’s technologies people are being able to hide things on the hard drives of their gaming consoles. With the digital surveillance for XBOX or XFT device, it is allowing law enforcement to get visual access to what’s on the hard drive. It also allows when a user has logged on to be played in real time for court hearings. It’s important for forensic technology to constantly be updated to keep up with current technology.
