Heart disease can be prevented by changing the diet and incorporating exercise without these changes then patient end up having to have stents placed, bypass surgery and ca be at high risk of mortality. This is a huge fact that you can prevent heart disease because according to the CDC over 28.2 million adults are diagnosed with heart disease (CDC, 2019) Diabetic patients’ prevention as well as management is focused on weight loss and diet modification. According to the CDC over 30 million Americans have diabetes, and 84 million more affected by prediabetes (CDC, 2019). Both conditions become lifetime chronic conditions for patients that is why it is extremely important to make these lifestyle changes. Education on how to prevent and specifically how much exercise activity needs to be available to patients as well as specifically what diet changes included. Examples of exercises that can be incorporated would be walking, swimming, jumping rope, bicycling, playing tennis, the recommended amount of time of activity a week is at least 150 minutes up to 300 minutes. While nurses providing education is important it is up to the patient to put the education into motion and apply it. Helping patients find some of their common interests and different ways to better their nutrition is very helpful as well as providing resources.
