also falling in love with a witty girl who is flat broke. My all-time favorite scene is when Chapman comes out of jail for the last time in the movie and his lover gets him a job as a singing waiter. Chapman has to perform by himself and cannot remember the lyrics. His girl writes the lyrics on his cuffs, but as soon as he starts to perform and dance, the cuffs fly off. Chapman has to come up with lyrics on his own, so he makes this whole nonsensical song up with funny pantomimes and sets the crowds on the screen in a frenzy of applause and the viewers laughing. Although I could go on for several more pages about how Chapman’s funny way of walking, facial expressions, and acting made the audience laugh even if he never made a sound besides to sing his nonsensical song, I will cut it short here. The fact that he never did speak a single world made him a character that everyone could relate to around the world, for he could be French, Italian, American, etc. Even though Modern Times is an old film, with no speaking and black and white, it still makes audiences today laugh out loud. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
