My action plan involves taking the full DISC assessment and using the resources and strategies
ACTION PLAN5provided by the assessment to improve my communication skills. My initial assessment results indicate I am a S/C or C/S blend style. In the Internal/Natural Style, I scored equally in Supportive and Cautious categories. In the External/Adapted Style, I scored high in the Cautious category. Based on my Supportive and Cautious traits, my communication style tends to be slow-paced, deliberate, and methodical in my conversations with others (DiSC Overview, n.d.). Takingthe full assessment will give me more insight on my own behaviors and short-comings when I communicate with others. I need to improve my self-promotion, practice confrontation, and ability adapt due to my Supportive trait, while improving in quick decision-making skills, delegation skills, and social participation due to my Conscientiousness trait (DiSC Overview, n.d.). Once I practice and improve in these areas based on the strategies provided by the DISC assessment, I can contribute more to the collaborative relationships with schools. The second part of my action plan is identifying other people’s communication style and practice addressing those communication needs of others so that it can help foster and support a healthy collaborative relationship. Based on a Ted Talk presented by Jim Tamm (2015), a healthycollaborative environment can increase productivity which affects the quality of work. In contrast, environments that require collaboration, yet failure to come to a conclusion or resolve an issue can be costly and damaging to the environment such as the education system. The inability to collaborate can stem from the lack of a certain set of skills such as communication (Tedx Talks, 2015). To address and prevent these issues, my action plans include my effort to understand and learn the communication styles of teachers, assistants, and other school staff to allow a healthy collaborative relationship with them. The method used to identify their communication styles involves conversations and observing their work ethics. Through conversations, I can ask questions such as how they like to receive information and what tasks
ACTION PLAN6they are willing to do. In addition to this, I can observe their behaviors to help me identify what their style such as a tendency to be independent with tasks, an extroverted personality, and organizational skills. With the plan of action, I can assist, support, and continue to develop my collaborative relationships within the school. Collaborating On IEPsIndividualized Educational Plan is a plan for a student that needs assistance, support, and/or services to help the student attain academic goals. Some of the topics in an IEP can involve academics, goals, student performance, student’s areas of weaknesses and strengths, student lesson modification, and other academic priorities (Understood, 2015). “During the IEP meeting, the different members of the IEP team share their thoughts and suggestions” (Center forParent Information and Resources, 2017).
