- Given the vulnerability of the Jamestown settlement in its first two decades, why did its sponsors and settlers not abandoned it? In your answer, discuss the challenges the settlement faced and benefits different participants in England and the New World hoped to derive from their efforts. - Bacon’s rebellion highlighted significant tensions within Chesapeake society. What provoked the rebellion, and what did it accomplish? In your answer, be sure to consider causes and results in the colonies and in England. Bacon’s rebellion began when the treaty was broken. This treaty said that the English were to have all the land they had already claimed and the wilderness land outside the English’s land was the Indians. The treaty broke because the Chesapeake population kept growing. In the end of all this, it made the Governor of Virginia believe that it was safer for Colonists to just fight the Indians for more land instead of fighting each other. They were able to imply tax cuts and reduce the tax rates. The economy of England was improving so much so that less and less servants came to Chesapeake.
