Every organization should create a strategy of performing a function that
best suits the organization.
Ethics and Diversity Training
A company wants to create a culture which consists of diversity.
Diversity strengthens
the organization’s foundation.
Having the various groups of people brings about diverse ideas,
strategies, and concepts.
To ensure that the mission does not get lost, the leaders should be
trained to lead the various types of people to achieve the single goal.
All supervisory employees,
DHCD, are required to take on-line training courses regarding ethics and diversity.
As a
weakness, employees take these courses only once during their tenure at DHCD.
As programs
become available we encourage or even mandate supervisors attend, explained by T. Smithers
(personal communication, November 1, 2013).
“If we teach people that they must ‘moral’ and
that their institution demands and upholds the highest standards, there is always a danger that
members of those institutions will come to regard themselves as morally superior.
One can argue
that this means ethics education must avoid the spirit of elitism” (Robinson, 2007).
An
organization should desire to employ workers with ethical standards and beliefs; however, the
workers should develop a better than outlook of themselves.

Recommendations for Recruiting and Training a Diversified Workforce
Each employer should perform a self-appraisal to search for areas of improvement.
After
such evaluation, the organization should exert all efforts to strengthen this area.
The Department
of Housing and Community Development could improve in the areas of recruitment and training
a diverse workforce.
“Recruitment flyers should include pictures of minority and disabled
employees, advertisements can be bilingual, and interviews can be conducted using translators.
It is important that the employer generate credibility to the image of equal employment
opportunity” (Gusdorf, 2008).
“In order to stay ahead of our competition, training and
development plan must incorporate innovation and reinvention and this only possible when
training encompasses a wide range of learning actions.
Therefore, an ideal training shall become
part of a company-wide strategy and it must be linked to business goals and organizational
performance” (Niazi, 2011).
An organization must take a hard look at itself to determine how it
can advance to the next level.
