Self- organization in a cloud computing environment is a perfect alternative to centralized management since centralized control is not feasible in a large-scale system due to physical consideration such as large communication delay, inability of a central authority to respond promptly to requests from a very large number of entities. A scale-free network allows individual nodes to decide on the role they will assume based on the degree of the node and in such a cluster most resource management decisions can be made locally. To conclude, self-organization is a viable alternative technique to deal with complexity of a system that is characterized by such features as complex emergence, synergetic self-assembly, nonlinearity and incommensurate scaling.
