The next day Jim and Laura decided that they were not going to buy the car because they did not want to spend that money each month. Therefore, Jim and Laura tell Stan the salesman that they have decided not to buy the car and request their $100.00 deposit back. When Stan said that he put the $100.00 deposit into the car and that it was meant to be part of a payment or contract to purchase the car, he was in the wrong. A nonbinding Deposit is what was used in this case. With a nonbinding deposit, you have the option of getting a refund if you decide not to buy the car. Stan is going to try everything that he can in order for the deal to go though. There was no contract drawn and no paperwork signed.
