Also, because it isn’t specific enough, it isn’t measurable. There is no time that it must be achieved by. Therefore, it can’t be doable in the timeframe because there isn’t one. To properly word this goal is easy. It would be something along the lines of: By the time I am 27 years old, I will be able to support myself financially by saving $125 each paycheck. That hits all 5 requirements of an attainable goal. J: So, it’s an all or nothing type deal with making a goal attainable? A: Yes. J: Is there anything you would do differently, looking back? A: You know, I am a big believer of controlling outcomes for my future. I really think I did everything properly, but if I had to come up with one thing, I wish I had put more of an emphasis in making a game plan for how I would achieve these goals. I focused too much on what needed to be accomplished, but not how I would do it. That would have saved me a couple of rejections from companies, I think.

Jaclyn Coleman J: Yeah of course. A plan is not good if you have no idea how to execute it. How about other people? Do you have any advice for other people in the same position you were in? A: To explore. J: Can you explain that? A: Exploring my options was important because it helped me to see different fields, opinions, and hear different experiences of people who have been in my position. It is ok to change your mind, not everyone knows what they’ll do right away. You have to test it out. J: To wrap this up I want to refocus to the main question: Why is it important to set attainable goals for getting a professional career?” A: So, you can make your visions into realities. J: Simple and to the point, I love it. Thanks again for meeting with me to further my research. You offered me a unique perspective on my question and I appreciate your answers. Before I turn the recording off, is there any other information you would like to include? If I come up with further questions, may I reach out to you by the phone number I have for you? A: Oh yeah for sure. I actually am pretty good at helping people figure their goals out, so reach out to me whenever. J: Wow, thanks. I def will. You were so great! A: So, it that it? J: Yep! Let me just turn this recorder off.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
