shares the camaraderie of being APRNs. Although education, accreditation, and certification are essential elements of a general method in organizing an APRN for practice, the licensing boards are overseen by public guidelines. Now, there is no standardized ideal regulation of APRNs within the states. Individual states autonomously decide the scope of practice, the recognized positions, as well as the standards deemed appropriate for novice APRN’s. With this state by state governance, it makes it difficult for the APRN to practice across state lines. The definition of an APRN in the state of Ohio is one that has fulfilled completion requirements from a qualified graduate-level education program grooming for one of the four acknowledged APRN roles, who successfully completed a national certification exam that gauges APRN role and population-focused aptitudes and who upholds constant capability as demonstrated by recertification, who has developed superior clinical data and talents priming those to provide candid attention to patients; but, the crucial element for all APRNs is that an
APN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN 4 important factor of the schooling and system emphasizes on the candid concern of people, whose training fabricates on the abilities of registered nurses (RNs) signifying a superior wisdom of comprehension, a larger creation of information, amplified intricacy of servies and involvement, and larger position of independence and who has acquired a license to practice as an APRN in one of the four APRN roles( Consensus Model for APRN Regulation , 2008). The state of Ohio is considered a restrictive state, meaning it requires a collaborative agreement with another discipline (physician) for the practitioner to provide care (Dillon & Gary, 2017), most practitioners see their own patients independently and seek consultation if needed. The role of the APRN involves taking detailed patient histories, physical examinations, health assessments, and screenings. The APRN is also involved in the diagnosis, treatment and supervision of the patient with both acute and chronic illness. This contains gathering, performing, supervising and interpreting laboratory data, as well as radiological imaging. Prescriptive authority is also granted in the state of Ohio, medications, durable medical equipment, any referrals needed may be prescribed ( Consensus Model for APRN Regulation , 2008). Personal Assessment Patricia Benner established a notion identified as "From Novice to Expert." This belief interprets that over a period, a nurse acquires skills, they become proficient and develop a familiarity of patient care. This belief comes from a sound scholarly base and respective involvements or experiences. The notion recognizes five stages of nursing experience. Novice, advanced beginner, competent, proficient, and expert ("Patricia Benner Novice to Expert," 2016).
