The infection control nurse should also work directly with the housekeeping supervisor to ensure that rooms are being cleaned correctly. Next, the clinical coordinator shares a great deal of responsibility in leading the nursing staff to adhere to the initiative. The clinical coordinators must remind staff during daily huddles to follow all steps of the initiative in reducing C. diff infections. The clinical coordinator is directly responsible for nursing staff on the unit and subsequently, any infections that occur. This leader must "advocate for patients’ safety and comfort by providing strong leadership when it comes to infection control and prevention polices" (Sentinel University, 2014). The clinical coordinator must also appropriately correct any negative behaviors and attitudes noted in staff. Underneath the clinical coordinators leadership comes the leadership of the shift supervisor. This leader will be the one that staff can go to for assistance and questions on each shift. The shift supervisor is also responsible for correcting any negative behaviors such as inadequate hand hygiene on the unit. The staff supervisor should be approachable with questions and provide continuous education. Lastly, each floor nurse should be a leader. Promoting a culture of safety on the unit is essential for patient-centered care and quality outcomes. The floor nurse should lead expectations by example for all other nurses on the unit. This leader should identify if coworkers are having issues with an initiative measure and assist them to complete it. This is especially true if a nurse has a heavy patient assignment. It is a good gesture to help clean equipment or complete minor tasks that may be time consuming for the already busy nurse. A good leader is a good coworker. Evaluation Plan

FINAL PROJECT 18 In order to evaluate the proposed initiative, the infection prevention nurse and leadership on the unit must be aware of staff compliance. Compliance to the initiative should be audited monthly in order to ensure compliance is within the goal of 85% or more. This evaluation will include direct staff observation of each responsible department on each shift. Compliance with each step of the plan of action will be determined on observation. This allows the auditor to gather numerical data for comparison. Strong leadership must ensure that staff members are following all steps of the initiative correctly. During this phase, nurses should be encouraged to ask questions and receive feedback as indicated. Management should proactively address any problems at this time in order to prevent issues from continuing to occur (French et al., 2009). By doing so, management ensures that staff education is adequate enough to carry out the initiative correctly in the future. After a one-year period of implementation, this data will be totaled and determine the overall staff compliance rate. Furthermore, the overall rate of infection will be measured throughout the one-year implementation period. Due to the small size of The Westerly Hospital, CDIs will continue to be monitored as they develop.
