As times have changed, there are more evaluations being conducted. I believe that these rates
will continue to increase as there are better lawyers, more mental illnesses, better science, and
people are trying to get justice. We do not want to send people to jail when they deserve to be in
a mental institution.
Mark 7:21-23 “For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality,
theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and
foolishness. All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you.” When I read this
bible verse I began to believe that all of mankind has some form of mental illness. We all have
temptations, immoral thoughts, and so forth. Therefore, I do understand why some people are
against the competency standards. There are many people who argue that these standards are
unfair as there may be people who are able to beat the system.

Hello Sylver,
Your post this week was informative. I like how you mentioned that you would produce
test with stress related incidents and incidents that may prove to be a trigger. I agree that this
would be a good way to test for competency. A case law review conclude that it is often difficult
for a defendant with an intellectual disability to be found incompetent. Defendants with both an
intellectual disability and mental illness or physical disabilities are more likely to be found
incompetent. The competency to stand trial should always be considered, because it proves that
the justice system gives everyone a fair chance during trial. I do believe that there should be
more levels to the present evaluations than what is currently present. In my post I suggested
interviewing entire families, friends, neighbors, and so forth. This would help the court, the jury,
and the prosecution team along with the psychologist more to go on. According to Jabr (2010),
