第四十七課 LESSON 47 What are you eating? I’m not eating anything very much Taiwanese people often give vague, indefinite, even evasive answers to direct questions! For example, the often heard question, Lí beh khì tó-¨ui ?” (Where are you going?) usually receives the vague and indefinite reply: Góa bô beh khì tó-¨ui (I’m going nowhere in particular)! The basic rule is that a Question Word can be used without its interrogative effect to give a vague and indefinite reply. Used in this way, it has the meaning ‘any ..... ’ (e.g. any thing, any one, any where) or ‘(not) much in the way of ...’. Question Words can only be used in this way with negative answers, and the Question Word itself is unstressed. The Question Word always follows the Verb (or Co-Verb). 1. Repetition Drill Q: Lí teh chh¨oe síang? A: Góa bô teh chh¨oe síang - góa kan-na khòa n íau ¨u lâng t¨i kàu-h¨oe l¨ai-b¨in bô. Q: 你在找誰?
