Still believing ‘This will be a dream and father will be back tomorrow’, I fall a sleep. There’s nobody beside me. Because no one wakes me up, I wake up at 2:00pm. And I realize, father left me. 4 One week has passed, and my life routine has repeated. I go to the parks every day, walk around and wait for my father to come. The shirt that he made for me last week is already dirty and because the season is almost the middle of fall, I feel cold wearing the shirt. Since I had seen one nice and cheap jacket in the vintage shop, three weeks ago when I went with my father, I decide to go there. When I enter the store, the woman who owns of the store smiles to me and said, “Welcome. Long time no see you.” It’s awkward to me for her to say that because she’s usually didn’t talk with me and my father even though we went that place a lot. So, I just thought she was a very shy woman or very cold woman. 4

I just look at her and said, hi and pick end up the jacket that I saw and checked out it with the only money I had left. However, different from my expectation, or maybe because it’s almost winter season, the jacket price was changed. It’s become expensive. I just give up on buying it. Once I try to put the jacket again in its place, the woman said, “Hey little girl... Just get it. It’s my present to frequent customer. “ ‘She’s very strange for me today...’ I think. I hesitate to receive it but because outside is too cold, I just get it. “Thank you, Brenda.” I tell her. Suddenly when I say this, she seems embarrassed. “How did you know my name?” “Because of the clothing store’s name is Brenda’s vintage closet.” “Oh, I see, how silly I am. I forgot about it. Sorry, never mind.” “It’s okay. Bye. It will be my last visit maybe. I’ll miss this place a lot.” “Why is it your last? Are you moving? Also, where is your father?” “He left me. He left me...” I don’t know why but I am crying. But more ridiculous thing is she’s also starting to cry. “Wha, What? Your father left you? How poor you are...” Me and she, both of us are just crying together. Because she thinks my situation is so pity, she offered me to work in the clothing shop. 5

5 5year is passed. Sadly, I didn’t have a bigger event than the moment when father suddenly left. The lesson I learned from the last 5 years was, I was stronger than I thought and everyone has their own unavoidable circumstances. Now I know tolerance to understand and accept it. “Hey, you see? Here is a stain in the backside part of the shirt. Refund it! I’ll get a refund right now!” ‘Oh my gosh. That old guy is coming again.’ “Calm down, I’ll refund it for you. It’s a very terrible thing for vintage clothes to have a stain. Right? Vintage clothes need to be clean and fragrant.” “Hmm...”

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
