To the Wise Athena. It was a disguise! The Wise Athena challenges Arachne to a competition of the loom. Accepted, the two females begin to do their best. Furiously, they slide the wool back and forth. Mesmerized, onlookers try to find fault in the patterns, but are beaten. Within minutes, the Goddess is finished with her great work. It is a scene of Poseidon’s defeat for the city name of Athens. A Glorious work of art but Arachne is done as well. A set of eyes flash to the second loom like flies to spoiled milk Did she dare insult the Gods? Arachne does dare. A pattern of the Rape of Europa and other infidelities of the Gods are shown. “INSOLENCE! You dare disgrace the Gods, you mere Mortal? I will show you what happens to those who do not show respect,” Athena screams, Even though she knows the work is flawless. A swing of her shuttle and Arachne’s masterpiece is ruined. Fleeing with shame and disgust, Arachne stumbles upon a frayed rope on the ground. “In the eyes of Athena, I am worthless” A marionette now blows in the wind near the town.
