with carrots and spinach to lunch (which was a sandwich). Then, for dinner, in addition to the collard greens, a cup of broccoli would be great. My food recommendations for the Mediterranean diet based on MyPlate, would be to slightly increase the amount of grains, possibly by adding an extra ½ cup of pasta for dinner. This would fulfill the MyPlate requirement for grains. Another thing I would do is increase the amount of vegetables by adding one extra cup of salad. I would also increase the amount of dairy, about 2.5-3 cups. So two cups of plain greek yogurt for breakfast, and some extra cheese maybe ½ cup, or a cup of milk at dinner would fulfill the dairy requirement. Thoughts if start adding food to the American diet, there shouldn’t be a great increase in the number of calories, however, along with dairy, depending on the type, there might be an increased amount of saturated fat. Fruits and vegetables shouldn’t be an issue with an increase in calories. The same thing would happen to the Mediterranean diet as well, specifically with the dairy and vegetables. An increase in fruits and vegetables should result to a (slight) increase in energy. If one were to increase the amount of grains, this slight amount of increase will not greatly impact caloric intake. However, if there is an extreme increase in grains, this might lead to an increase in calories, with an increase in energy. For the Mediterranean excessive intake of fruits and protein, there should be the one cup of grapes taken out in Day 1, or the person should just have one or two figs (and not four) for Day 2.
