(No. 17). American Sunday-school union. 6. Explain the significance of the following groups of people: Sumerians, Akkadians, Amorites, Hurrians, Arameans, Habiru, and Hittites. According to our text, the Sumerians were the southern part of the Mesopotamian people and they were of the world’s first civilizations (Tullock & McEntire, 2012). The Akkadians are the Semites that the Israelites came from. The Amorites are also a Semite tribe that were the Semitic growth. The Arameans were an Amorite tribal group that stretched into the Mesopotamia area. The Arameans also extended to the Holy Land. The Hurrians and the Amorites became one group and left tablets behind that helped clear up many of the Old Testament passages. The Habiru are the ancient nomads of the northern Mesopotamia area and are a part of the Holy Land. They are more than likely the descendants of the Hebrew people that are now recognized as Lebanon and Syria were the Hittites that went to Asia. They took control away from the Palestine’s during this time. References Tullock, J. H., & McEntire, M. H. (2012). The Old Testament story. Boston: Prentice Hall.
