Species of economic significance in the Mexican part of the Gulf of Mexico large marine ecosystem include a variety of shrimp, octopus, fish, and the brackish water clam (J. Emmett Duffy, 2008). If an organization like the GEF does not assist this large marine ecosystem in the Gulf of Mexico, many species will become extinct and the fishing industry will diminish. Conclusion The Coastal ecosystems in the Gulf of Mexico are an important national and regional resource because its numerous significant ecological roles. The ecosystem provides homes for many diverse life forms, including commercially valuable fisheries species and also provides recreational opportunities.
