After moving to New York, Josie met her golden egg, Jim Fisk, who was easily her best manipulation scheme yet. Mansfield realized that Fisk was attracted to her so she used her charm to make him take upon the burden of all of her debt. Receiving thousands of dollars in gifts was pleasing to Josie, so she had started to only show affection when she would receive a gift or her stocks would do well (22). Much like training a new puppy with treats, Josie degraded Fisk to an animal seeking reward. It also must be pointed out that Josie knew of Fisk’s wife and was perfectly fine hurting Mrs. Fisk to continue receiving money. Her ruthless nature in conjunction with her developing ability to manipulate others is showcased in her control of Fisk and lack of regard for his wife.

Similarly to Josie’s first marriage, she grew tired of Fisk but this time she pushed her luck too far. Mansfield was bored of her financial security and sought more excitement in her life;
