During this trial, although he disagreed with the soldier's superiors, Adams represented them fairly and as best as he could. Because of this he received a lot of hate, and anger expressed towards him from the colonists in and outside of the trial, which he clearly didn’t deserve because of his willingness to even represent someone whom he clearly disagrees with. Johns efforts continue into the Philadelphia Congress, as he fights for independence from Britain, and continues until the Declaration of Independence is signed by Congress. His next efforts occur when he is appointed Vice President to George Washington. As shown in the film, when Washington called in his advisors for a meeting, he often told John to leave because it was ‘official’ cabinet meetings. This greatly upset John because he had a lot of ideas he wanted to share about many domestic and foreign issues, but he couldn’t because although he was the Vice President, he wasn’t considered part of his cabinet. Eventually, after much persistence, Washington asks John for his opinion and thought about the French, and is presently surprised by
