No textbook required. I have selected readings that I will be posting on Blackboard weekly that you are required to read. They often (but not always) come with reading response assignments (see below under participation) Course Requirements: 1. Attendance : While there is no grade attached to attendance, you are expected to attend each session and can expect an e-mail from me if you aren’t showing up. Students who do not come to lecture in my classes tend to regret it on exams when they realize just looking at pictures on PowerPoint isn’t the same as coming to class. 2. Review Paper: The paper requires you to learn how to ask a scientific question about sexuality, and find some answers using strong scientific sources. We will go over this paper in detail in class, you will have a lot of hands on help. Our main focus for grading on this paper is: crafting a good review question, finding reliable scientific sources, presenting a sound interpretation of those sources. 3. Exams : This class consists of three exams. Exams are not cumulative. You will never get a multiple choice anything in my class. Exams are 10 short answer essay questions each. I test on material given in lecture and the online readings. I repeat: It is extremely difficult to do well in this course if you do not come to lecture, keep up with readings, or turn in assignments. 4. Participation (reading responses): 200 points: Participation score is determined through the reading response assignments given with your online readings (not all readings will have a response assignment, but when they do it will be posted right below the reading itself in blackboard with instructions). These are graded as pass/fail and then the total number of reading responses you have submitted is factored into the points. While these assignments are only pass/fail it is extremely important to turn them in on time since they are worth a good deal of your total points.
