BASIC CONCEPTS OF HADITH (CONT’D) A Hadith has three basic components: Isnad : It is the chain of transmission by which the report or the text was communicated. Matn : It is the text itself said by Holy Prophet (SAWW). Taraf : It is the part, or the beginning sentence, of the text which refers to the sayings, actions or characteristics of the Prophet.

BASIC CONCEPT OF HADITH (CONT’D) Allah says in Surah An Nahl : “With clear signs and Books (We sent the Messengers). And We have also sent down unto you (O Muhammad) the Dhikr (reminder and the advice (i.e. the Qur’ân)), that you may explain clearly to men what is sent down to them, and that they may give thought” (An-Nahl 16:44) . And also in Surah An Najm : “Nor does he speak of (his own) desire .It is only a Revelation revealed” ( An-Najm 53:3-4). These Quranic Verses clearly shows that the words and deeds of the Prophet Muhammad (SAWW) are and/or were divinely guided and guarded. Thus, have same authority as that of Glorious Quran.
