5.2. Knowledge management System Improvements Knowledge sharing and transfer in Sterlite Tech is a challenge that current employees face. Employees experience a lack of trust when it comes to passing on relevant information, documents, and white papers. We recommend that the company may strengthen its Learning & Development Department, which can get training content prepared by in-house experts, can make repositories of the learning contents which can be accessible to its employees through the HRMS system under Learning & Development section. The company can also launch a buddy program where a senior manager from the new joiner’s department may be assigned his/her mentor. This mentor-mentee relation can help in building a knowledge-sharing culture in the organization. The company can incentivize its employees and make it a part of their KRAs to train the juniors/ reportees /subordinates. The same can be reviewed in the quarterly or semi-annual performance review. On the flip side, the organization can incentivize learning and encourage people to learn and take-up at least one relevant course per quarter, and the same may be reviewed in quarterly performance appraisal. A learning portal can be formed where people may share and discuss the various organization and industry-related articles, newsletters, case studies, stories etc. The company can also launch a monthly/ quarterly magazine circulated across its offices in India and globally, which can feature technical and behavioural articles along with other things and activities happening across locations, thus creating a platform for sharing the latest happenings, viewpoints, and their knowledge. 7
