But there are also other factors of vulnerability that may include a reduced income, inadequate nutrition, poor housing, and lack of health care. Socially the elderly are also more likely to lose their sense of affiliation to the community, which may take a emotional toll on them as well. The state of Nevada has Aging and Disability Services Division, which is commonly found in each state. This department also conducts elder abuse prevention training to educate the community. Nevada’s rapidly growing population over the past 15 years has included a disproportionately large number of retired persons in urban areas, Nevada also has many less populated regions where the increase in the percentage of elderly is a direct consequence of the out-migration of younger people from rural areas while the older Nevadans are left behind. Urban Nevada also has challenges due to the large size of the senior citizen population base. In 2016 Nevada was ranked number two trailing Washington, D.C. for elder abuse protections. Reference:
