o It has made that much of an impact EEU: Eurasian Economic Union Newest of new entities that will make a big splash Eurasian spans from Europe to Asia (Russia and Russian device) Will affect the events of the 21 st century It is an economic union supposedly about free trade and facilitating trade across borders It was established by a treaty on May 2014 o Between Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia o Been in formation since the dissolution of the USSR back in 1991 Goes into effect in January 1, 2015 Sought to follow the model of the EU o Wants political integration o Free movement of people o Organized policy among member states Right now, this economic union is all for free movement of goods, services, capital, and workforce across all states o They are also conducting coordinated or common policies in key sectors of economy Energy, heavy industry, agriculture, transportation and communication o This ain’t no NAFTA Some think it should be a lot more than this o More political integration o More military integration

Vladimir Putin: President of Russia want to push their influence out as much as possible We assume is it the brain child of Putin but it isn’t Economic integration has been happening ever since the breakup of the Soviet Union after the Cold War into 15 new states 1994 – the commonwealth of independent states was formed Mostly economic driven to smooth over the transition process of all of these entities becoming a sovereign state o It has been pushed harder and faster since in the decade since Putin took office May be a tool for reuniting the Russian people of all the sovereign states It is an alternative economic block from the EU whether you question Putin’s movement or not This is really what the whole Ukrainian issue is about Russia’s intervention in Ukraine is really about this union It wants to pull back in folks to work with it and not run away to join team West He just wants to make everyone richer without joining the European Union He says they should get with his club because they are doing a lot of business with Japan and China and South Korea Asia is the epicenter of the economy now Putin has stated that his goal is to enlarge EEU to all post-Soviet states except the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania o These three are in NATO and the EU o Armenia slated to join o Kyrgyzstan wants to join o Tajikistan is likely to join but still needs some convincing o Former Soviet Republics say no thanks Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia will not join EEU They accepted the talking points of getting into the EU There are parts of these place (Transnistria in Moldova, the Republic of Donetsk in Ukraine, South Ossetia and Abkhazia in Georgia) have said that they want into the EEU Who will likely never join the EEU: o Moldova, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Georgia (Russia invaded them in 2008) and pulled away their sub regions that wanted to join the EEU o However, President’s come and go so new ones may change their mind o The Ukrainian situation may be the linchpin that changes everybody’s mind
