What kind of job would we land into? was one of the foremost concerns in the minds of the students. This is deeply embedded in the education system in India because we are so structured and rigorous in following the syllabus at the school level that students, by the time they graduate, have mostly lost their sense of creativity or so they think and feel. Being creative and innovative at the postgraduate management studies level was usually perceived as unthinkable by most Indian students. Internal Faculty s Perspective Bringing design thinking into management courses was also a new way of approaching management education. The faculty found it challenging to change their triedand- tested successful ways of imparting management education. The course was new, the pedagogy had to be different, the examples and case studies had to be built up all over again. It was a while before our own faculty understood what had to be done and how to do justice to the concept. Covering Milestones Although it is too early to define our success, we can share how we are supported to work towards integrating the disciplines. Our Postgraduate Diploma in Management (Business Design),4 which is currently running its second cohort of students, is gaining popularity among students all over India, as indicated by the fifteenfold increase in the number of applications that we receive from prospective students opting for this course. In addition, the course has attracted students with a good profile most of them have work experience of three years in industry, there is a mix of engineers, commerce graduates and science graduates with very high scores in the common entrance tests conducted nationally and at the state level for MBA aspirants. Our first cohort, which passed out in the year 2008, is working with reputed companies in various industry sectors like retail, information technology, banking and finance and design

houses. Many of them have been inducted as a part of innovation teams in their 126 New Educational Perspectives for Designers and Managers respective companies. They are well connected and return to share their experiences and express how the different thought process has been beneficial to them in their work environment. From the educational standpoint, the business design students have become more sensitive to the importance of clarity of thought, aesthetics, visual vocabulary for effective communication, use of ethnographic studies for research, the development of soft skills like empathy all this for better business development and management. Our initiative, spreading design thinking to achieve innovation in the companies through the executive education programme conducted at WeSchool, has received encouraging feedback from the participants. The business design team is invited to speak at various forums at the national level on design thinking and management and, more specifically, on how this concept is being integrated with the other streams of management and how will it affect the business and management style in future.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
