Victory, line of footwear. The newly named brand Nike managed to overtaken nearly 1/2 of the athletic footwear market in the 1980’s. This formed new ideas within the company to only expose their name even more and increase profit. Nike then began its reputation for creating unique and inspiring ads, beginning with its "Just Do It" slogan in 1988 (Nike repository, 2011). The "Just Do It" campaign allowed Nike to further increase its share of the domestic sport-shoe business from 18% to 43% (Wikipedia, 2012). Adidas Adidas is an international German business organization responsible for designing and manufacturing sports related goods as well as other products such as bags, shirts, watches, and eyewear. It was founded in 1924 by a German guy named Adolf “Adi” Dassler, whom later on decided to include his brother Rudolf Dassler in the business (Adidas History, 2013). Adolf’s motive was to create a shoe that would help athletes feel more comfortable and perform better (Adidas Group, 2011). The company was originally named Dassler shoes, but later became Adidas after a feud erupted between the brothers, which cause Rudolf to go a separate way and establish a company of his own known as Puma. Once Rudolf left, his brother Adolf came up with the famous three stripes which were created to keep the foot stable, but ended up being the actual logo (Adidas History, 2013). Over the years Adidas was seen in the Olympics and that really helped the company get its name known to everybody. It was the leading brand at the time, making their shoes highly wanted by Olympic athletes. In 1978, Adi Dassler passed at age 78 and his wife Kathe was now in charge of the company (Adidas History, 2013). Six years later Kathe passed and the company was left for their son Horst Dassler to run, but 3

unfortunately three years later Horst passed at age 51. After Horst’s death Adidas ran into some major financial problems, and later a guy named Bernard Tapie showed up in an attempt to save the company from the crisis (Adidas History, 2013). Financial Analysis We were told to prepare a common-size income statement using only the most recent year of each corporation. As we found each companies income statement we came up with the following net income comparisons for 2012: The net income for each company was Polo Ralph Lauren $681; Nike $2,223; Adidas 68$. Below we will display each company’s income statement to give further explanation of where the numbers came from.
