Name of Instrument: QBC Autoread Centrifugal Hematology System Methodology or Test Reaction(s): The QBC Autoread Centrifugal Hematology System performs electro optical linear measurements of the discrete layers of packed blood cells in a micro hematocrit type tube. Test Menu: The QBC Autoread Centrifugal Hematology System is utilized for the determination of the hematocrit, the hemoglobin, the white blood cell count, and it performs a small white blood cell differentiation of granulocytes, lymphocytes, monocytes, and platelet counts. It is a point of care analyzer. Types of Activities Performed Today: First, the Calibration Check Rod was tested to ensure that the daily performance of the QBC Autoread Centrifugal Hematology System is accurate. There is a separate test mode for the Calibration Check Rod. This was selected, the Calibration Check Rod was inserted into the analyzer, the instrument automatically read it, the information was displayed and printed, and the results were confirmed to be correct. After that was performed, a fingerstick whole blood sample was collected within QBC capillary tubes that contained a coating of anticoagulants and was centrifuged and then analyzed. Needs for Corrective Action/Maintenance/Problems Encountered: If an error was indicated by the instrument, we were to refer to the table of error messages and codes for assistance. When there was trouble reading the QBC tube, the tube was to be wiped with alcohol and retested, and the message window was to be checked to ensure that the correct mode was selected. Also, there was to be no bubbles in the plasma, the float was to be clean, and the plasma level was to be between the two lines after centrifugation to ensure that there were no errors.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
