Fortunately, the North African countries which have been majorly relying on imported wheat seem to be better placed even with the ongoing crisis. This is because these countries have increased their supply, hence have higher stocks supplied locally. If the reliance of these countries on imports could be high as it has been in previous years food inflation could have been inevitable. China has been increasing its wheat supply since 2006, stabilizing prices and ensuring food security in the country. However, currently the wheat prices are high, due to the high demand, and exporting the cereal will lead to losses. The analysis shows that China will continue increasing its supply but in the future reducing the reserves through decreased domestic production, internal auctions and reduced imports. This means the country is not expected to export wheat anytime soon. Other big exporters of wheat including Australia, Russia, Argentina, Canada, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, the European Union, and the United States have also experienced low supply due to drought which has affected the supply in these countries.
