Whereas, in Shari’ah an individual is not only guided as to what he is “entitled or bound to do in law, but also what he or she ought, in conscience, to do or to refrain from doing. In other words, Shari’ah encompasses legal injunctions, or moral or ethical injunctions.

Function of Methodology Methodology of a subject investigates into the concepts, theories and basic principles of reasoning of a subject. There is a wide difference of opinion on the methodology of economics, ranging from the classical emphasis on verification of assumptions to the neoclassical falsification of prediction. The debate on methodology touches the issues such as; positive vs. normative, inductive vs. deductive, incorporation vs. exclusion of values, prescription vs. description and empiricism. Economists have taken positions on these issues and often heated debate have ensued as a result.

Why the discussion of the methodology? The economists are keen to reach the truth and each methodological approach claim to reach it in a surer manner as compare to others.

Methodology of Islamic economics 1- the hard core The basic question of methodology is to help in reaching the truth The hard core of Islamic economics consist of postulates of the Qur’an and the Sunnah of the prophet pbuh. These postulates are divine in nature. Therefore, the question of their falsity does not arise. They are true because of their origin. The method of Islamic economics is that for each situation reference is made first of all to these two sources, for their postulates are true and are accepted as given.

2-the role of the reason: The scope of Islamic economic include the study of Islamic values, analysis of real-life economic phenomena and exploration of ways and means to transform the existing economic into Islamic economies. Therefor the hard core of Islamic economics provide direct guidance on small number of questions. A dominant part of the economic reality require application of human reason and intellect within the over-all divine framework.

3-Inductive and Deductive reasoning. Islamic economics applies both inductive and deductive methods. In fact, Muslims are the inventors of the inductive reasoning. Before the advent of Islam the ancient world did produce some great systems of philosophy, but they were based on abstract speculative reasoning. The Qur’an invited people to look and see. It argued on the evidences of natural phenomena such as sun, moon, day, night, rain fall, season, differences of colors and tongues. This ignited a spirit of inquiry which led to the discovery of inductive Method in research.

Therefore, in Islamic economic inductive method is only a continuation of the tradition set by Muslims in the past.
