Concerted effort by JAP gov. tying into JAP economy – plays a heavy hand in industry and really help develop companies in their inception years to make sure they succeed. They are accused of being socialist. Why U.S. did this???? 1. Re-build JAP, much like they re-built Europe under the marshall plan o re-build these places so that they become valuable trading partners and allies o They’re on your team during cold war, so they wont be commies o Money o So Russia or China wont take over JAP Wanted a rich, strong, vibrant JAP, so they would be a source of trade & a strong political ally **** U.S. occupation of Japan lasted from 1945-1952
