Feminization of Poverty – more women are heading households o 30% of female-headed, single parent households are in poverty Social Welfare – system of means that help people take care of children, old people, people who can’t provide for themselves o Subject to a lot of stereotypes o 1990s – there was so much hatred towards those on welfare Government implemented limitations people can only be on welfare for 5 years There was a lot of backlash o Based on income levels Household of four less than $11,700 per year Household of 2 less than $15,000 per year 45% of African Americans & Hispanics o Three factors: Income Level of education Occupation o Does money make people happy? $75,000 – money no longer factors into levels of happiness
