without a clear understanding of either the risk or the actual benefit of a specific code requirement. (para. 1) In essence, many times those writing the fire codes are doing so with the best intentions, but do not understand the actual cost of implementing the code, whether it is feasible to do so, and if there is any real benefit from certain codes. Fire codes must be written and enforced, but with a full understanding of the cost and benefit of both the code and the enforcement of it. Some codes are inexpensive to implement and enforce, such as installing fire extinguishers, but others may be cost-prohibitive, such as requiring homeowners to install sprinkler systems in their homes. While these are good ideas, the average homeowner may choose to pay fines rather than install a sprinkler system. With many people having the attitude “it won’t happen to me,” communities need to find a way to incentivize business owners to comply with local fire codes.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
