Teacher’s Page Things Fall Apart Chapter 13 Plot Objective: Reordering plot incidents chronologically Activity The following incidents from Things Fall Apart are out of order. Reorder them chronologically by numbering them correctly in the spaces provided. Number one should be assigned to the earliest event, while number fifteen should be written beside the most recent event. Although flashbacks technically occur prior to any event in the text, they should be numbered in the order that the text presents them. 5 Okonkwo shoots at his second wife‚ Ekwefi‚ for cutting leaves off the banana tree. 12 Chielo carries Ezinma to the shrine. 3 Okonkwo goes to Nwakibie for help with farming yams. 4 Okonkwo beats Ojiugo during the Week of Peace. 7 The locusts descend and the Ibo enjoy the delicacies. 15 Okonkwo and his family flee to Mbanta. 1 Unoka dies with no money and no titles. 13 The women of the village recapture the wandering cow. 2 Ikemefuna comes to live with Okonkwo and his family. 8 Okonkwo participates in the death of the lad who lives in his household for three years. 6 The whole village turns out for the wrestling matches and Okafo wins the title. 9 Obierika explains to Okonkwo that he would have stayed at home the day Ikemefuna is killed. 14 Okonkwo accidentally kills Ezeudu’s son. 10 Ezinma discovers her buried iyi-uwa, which guarantees her good health. 11 The egwugwu settle Uzowulu’s argument with his wife’s family. Note to Teacher: As an alternative method of conducting this activity, draw a simple timeline on the board or overhead and choose students to come forward and write the events at intervals along the timeline. Another method is to have students draw the incidents from a hat and arrange themselves correctly across the front of the room.
