From the data collected majority of the respondents reported that the cost of implementation for green supply
chain management (M=4.00, SD=1.025) were identified as a major challenges in implementing green supply
chain management. This implies that cost concern were a major barrier to Ethiopia leather industry to
implement GSCM practices. This result coincides with previous studies finding of (Bhateja et al., 2011;
Galle, 2001; Walker et al., 2008)who investigated their studies they found that cost of implementation is
the biggest barriers to implement green supply chain management .

Lack of customer’s awareness towards green supply chain management and green products ( M=3.56, SD=
1.208) were rated as major challenges in implementing green supply chain management. This implies that
lack of customer awareness and lack of knowledge were a great barriers/challenges in the implementation of
GSCM in Ethiopia leather industry. Consistent with this finding of the study conducted by (Luthra et al.,
2011; Beyene, 2015; Singh et al.,2012; Mathiyazhagan et al., 2014)) revealed that unawareness of customers
were a major challenges in implementing green supply chain management in manufacturing industry.
Lack of skilled/quality/ human resource professionals in sustainability & green supply chain management
(M=3.54, SD= 1.182) and lack of knowledge, experience training to personals in Green supply chain
management (M=3.50, SD= 1.24) . This implies that lack of knowledge is a current barrier for Ethiopia leather
manufacturing industry and individuals do not understand GSCM practices and the benefits associated with
