Were going to run through enough customizations here

Course Hero uses AI to attempt to automatically extract content from documents to surface to you and others so you can study better, e.g., in search results, to enrich docs, and more. This preview shows page 54 - 59 out of 71 pages.

We’re going to run through enough customizations here that you’ll be comfortable making yourown individual changes. However, because your changes will be different than the ones we’remaking here, we won’t be able to cover them all. Before you get started, I strongly recommend you take a few minutes to just look around thecustomizer – ie.e check out all the different optionsbeforeyou start making changes. You’ll notice from our image below that we’ve published a post, just to make it easier to get afeel for how the site looks. The below image represents our default settings. Our objective here is to create a homepage that features your content, but also makes it clearthat you are available for hire.Step 1: Clean Up the HeaderYou’ll find this setting under LAYOUT >> HEADER.
1.Change “Header Layout” to Centered.2.Scroll the bottom and uncheck “Show Search Field.”3.Click “Save & Publish.”The header should now look like this:Much better, right?Step 2: Change the TypographyYou’ll probably agree that our typography is looking a little bland right now. We’re going to makesome changes to our themewhilekeeping the following objectives in mind:1.We want the site to be easy to read.2.We want consistency. That means selecting a total of 23 fonts maximum, including thesite’s title. These are the fonts were going to use for our site:Site Title – QUICKSANDMain Menu – JOSEFIN SANSHeaders – JOSEFIN SANSBody Text – MERRIWEATHER
To set your individual fonts, you’ll find the font settings under TYPOGRAPHY.Site Title and TaglineLet’s change the Site Title and Tagline fist. Here is what we changed:Font Family: QuicksandFont Style: NormalFont Size: 42pxText Transform: UppercaseLetter Spacing: 1pxEverything else we’ll leave as default for now. Click “Save and Publish.”HeadersNext, we’ll change the Text Headers.
Here is what we changed for H1 to H6:Font Family: Josefin SansFont Weight: NormalLine Height: 1.3emGlobalWhat about out main body text? We’ll change that in Global settings:FontFamily: MerriweatherDon’t forget “Save & Publish!”Main MenuFinally, we’ll change our main menu font to the following:FontFamily: Josefin SansFontSize: 20pxTextTransform: LowercaseOnce again, don’t forget “Save & Publish!”
With the live editor, you’ll see your changes happening in realtime. With the changes above, this is roughly how our site looks now:Step 3: Time to ExperimentBy now, you’re probably getting more comfortable moving around the theme customizer. It’s more than likely that today will be one of your longer days. Spend an hour or twoexperimenting with some different settings until you have a layout and look that resembles whatyou want. (But again, remember your goal is to ship a “good enough site, not make a perfectone!)Here are a few specific tweaks we made to the sample site that you might find beneficial:Layout >> Blog(Posts Page)1.We made sure “show right sidebar was checked.”2.Post Date Style was set to None – this removes the post date from your blog posts.
