Biol 106 Fall 2016Lab 6 Oct 3rd- 7th12Exercise 3:A trip to the GreenhouseObtain a dichotomous key from your (this is not your to keep please do not write on it)Take the elevator to the 7thfloor of Abelson and enter the greenhouse. Find the plants with the whitenumbered stakes and use the dichotomous key provided to identify plants 1-6. You can do these in any order.Plant #List the character states chosen to arrive at this name(the traitsyou chose from the key as best describing the plant in each couplet):At least 2 for each plantIdentification:123456When you have identified all 6 plants, head back down to the labreturn the key, and examine the plantspecimens located around the side benches labeled stations A-F.Exercise 4: Gathering data to make your own plant cladogram. You are now ready to gather data by making observations of plants A-F. You may visit stations A-F in anyorder. Write in the name of each plant as you visit.Survey all of the plants, noticing morphological characteristics that might be useful characters.Decide on 6-7 characters that you think will be useful in categorizing these plants.Write them in the chart below. Then, for each plant, identify the character state for each of your 6-7 characters by observing it carefully.Remember, ideally each trait should either be present or absent, rather than descriptive. Think about stems, vein patterns, leaf shape. If there are more than two choices you will have to subdivide the categorylogically.
