The reality of the matter, though, is that the audiences loved his plays due to their innovativeness and their controversial themes In the competitions front, he was not very successful. His first competition trilogy which was performed in 455 BCE could only manage a third position. Out of all his 90 plays, only four managed to win first prize. This is an unfortunate record compared to Sophocles and Aeschylus who had an impressive 50% win rate. Euripides cultured and popularized the art of tragedy in Greece, and he enabled ordinary citizens to experience the art of tragedy (Murray & Chris 19). At his time only the upper class was represented on stage and were worthy enough for serious consideration. He applied customary system of theatre, however he presented it in such a language that was simple and very easy to understand. He employed a lot of everyday expressions.
