Special Abdominal Tests Rebound tenderness - @ RLQ, press down firmly with one hand, a positive finding on the RELEASE could indicate peritonitis (Blumberg sign) Referred rebound tenderness - @ LLQ, palpate deeply and release hand; pain on release around RLQ could indicate appendicitis. Murphy sign – palpate deeply in the RUQ and ask patient to inhale deeply. Presence of pain and stopped inhalation could indicate inflamed gallbladder.
