Provision three influences my practice because it is not only ethical, it is a legal matter as well. Protecting the rights of patients and patient privacy requires is mandatory for all nurses and is enforced by HIPPA. This can be challenging sometimes because people will come to the facility or call and ask where a patient is or went because they are worried about them, but it is required that information is not be given out to certain individuals. G2 Clinical Practice Error . One clinical practice error that I can think of is one of my own. I had a CAN call me and tell me that one of my patient’s blood pressure was 180/90 and I knew that this patient had a PRN or as needed blood pressure medication for a blood pressure over 160 systolic. Without checking the paper work I went and administered this medication. Later I realized this was the wrong patient and my CAN was talking about someone else. It miraculously ended up that the person I gave the medication to had a very high blood pressure anyways but this was still not okay. I learned that it is important to always triple check before a medication administration because it can be so easy to hurt someone this way. G2A Application of ANA Provisions . The ANA provisions apply to this because by not checking the patients name and making sure I was giving medication to the right person for the right thing, I was not advocating for them, respecting them, or keeping them safe. The ANA provisions are set 10
Task One specially in place to make sure that nurses are diligent and administered medications in a safe way. H. Four Leadership Qualities or Traits that Represent Excellence in Nursing. Leadership qualities that represent excellence in nursing in my opinion are being: Ethical Emotionally intelligent A critical thinker A good communicator H1 Demonstration of Nursing Leadership Qualities or Traits For a nurse to be a leader they must work ethically and use the provisions of ethics in their practice. Ethics are one of the reasons that nursing remains the most trusted profession each year. At the bedside, it is important to be ethical so that the patient is getting the care they deserve and the trust they need in you to heal. Amongst the disciplinary team it is important to be ethical so that the right care can be provided by the right person. Being emotionally intelligent is important because your patients need more than just someone to administer them medications. Patients at the bedside usually need someone to listen to them and show them that they are being cared for. Emotional intelligence when working with the interdisciplinary team is important because communication can change based on emotions. Critical thinking skills are so important for any nurse because no day is the same. Each day at the bedside requires us to think outside of the box and put difficult decisions and interventions in place. Critical thinking skill when used in the interdisciplinary team is important because the team may have different ideas than you to treat the patient.
