While members A and C were both males but only C was a psychology major. In theexample of assignment 4,it’s likely members B and D helped each other out because of theircommon similarities where as member C and A worked together and A contacted C separatelybecause C was a psychology major and could provide input which the author whom is a HRmajor cannot provide. So because of the pairing of the group members, the overall groupnetworking system took the shape of a circle rather than the free flowing comcon model.Collaboration between group members –The collaboration between members in a groupstems from the forms of support members provide for each other.A study by J.Sylvan Katz and
Ben R.Martin (1997) looked into the field of research collaboration. They found researcherswere willing to work in partnership and provide credit and recognition to other researchersbecause of the mutual benefit it provides to both parties.Researchers work with others from thescholarly community as collaborators or co-authors because they can share and provide eachother with research, data and ideas to promote discussion and further scientific knowledge. In thetext book Group Dynamics (Forsyth, 2010),forms of social support in groups are belonging, emotional, informational, instrumental and spiritual support. In the research study by Katz andMartin(1997)the key form of support in research teams was informational and instrumental. The same forms of support were found in Team Neves. The collaboration in the grouphad to do with the mutual benefit of every member. In Assignment 8 required the team to collectseveral items and answer multiple questions. The activity was designed in a way that membershad to cooperate and be proactive to go out and collect the items.A completed assignment meanta large reward.Team Neves had excellent cooperation as the tech-savvy members (A,C and theauthor) worked together to use the internet and find out the answers to the required questionswhile the mobile members (B and D) went into town to collect the required items.Thesynergistic approach wielded results because the group managed to collect and answer all therequirements and hand the project in on time.Team Neves had a short life span, only three months and dealt mostly with class relatedwork so support types such as belonging, spiritual and emotional support were not essential forits success but what was crucial was informational and instrumental support.Like the study byKatz and Martin (1997) which showed collaboration was essential to benefiting group goals,Team Neves managed a healthy level of collaboration and contributed fair amounts to achievethe groups’ objectives when called upon.
2- ConflictSources of conflict –There were some underlining reasons for tension and friction in theoverall chemistry of Team Neves.
