school. The pressure Andrew’s father places on him shows that Andrew lives with at least one authoritarian parent. An authoritarian parentis one that sets strict standards for their children’s behavior and obedience is their main concern. Andrew’s father tells him that he has to be numberone and always has to win. This intense form of parenting with little understanding towards a child’s own feelings are so extreme that Andrew even wishes that his leg would break so he wouldn’t have to wrestle anymore. All in all, with the pressure placed on Andrew by his father and classmates he feels like he has to become someone he’s not in order to perfect the image of himself and to make his father happy. Allison, the basket case, was silent for the majority of the movie; however, once she started talking the other teenagers realized that Allison is a compulsive liar and a kleptomaniac. Acompulsive liaris a person that lies continuously throughout their day and find comfort in it. When the students were all in the circle, Allison was able to easily create a story about how she was constantly having sex with her shrink when she’s actually a virgin. In the movie, Allison is also seen stealing items. For example, at the end of this movie she takes a patch off of Andrew’s jacket for herself. Allison is revealed to also have kleptomania, which is the need to steal items that a person usually would view has having a small value or not need. These mental disorders cause Allison to often be viewed as an outcast around the school and since individuals with mental disorders are generally not given the amount of attention they deserve, Allison tends to besecluded from the entire school. Allison even confesses that her own parents don’t even pay attention to her and don’t care what she is doing. Allison’s parents could be considered permissive parents. Permissive parentsare ones that set no clear guidelines for children and let them act however they want. She did not even have a reason for being in detention that Saturday,she was just lonely and knew her parents would not question her if she left the house. All in all,
