This is a serious health condition which requires extensive ongoing research in finding a cure. Human Immunodeficiency Virus Program There has been significant progress in HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment with the introduction of the anti-viral vaccine, however unequal access, geographic location, cost and, homophobia has created a decrease in compliance. Billions are been spent on prevention research, still it is estimated 2.6 million will acquire HIV annually. With the participation of advocacy programs, providing education and dispelling disparity, the goal is for HIV treatment to be available throughout the world (Decock, Jaffe & Curran, 2011).

HEALTH ADVOCACY CAMPAIGN 4 The Treatment Action Campaign The Treatment Act Campaign (TAC) main objective was to provide pregnant women with Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) and to bring awareness to HIV/AIDS in South Africa (Campaign, 2012). Their target goal was to reduce infection by 50% and to make available ART to approximately 80% of all eligible patients (Campaign, 2012). Pregnant women and other individuals with HIV are eligible for treatment with a CD4 count of 350 (Campaign, 2012). Advocating for treatment in a pregnant woman is important as HIV is the main cause of maternal death in South Africa. Infants with HIV will be given the ART immediately to reduce death by 75% (Campaign, 2012). The location was the most important aspect of making the Treatment Action Campaign a success. The intent of the location was to target pregnant women within the privacy of a clinic providing treatment with the assistance of an approved nurse initiative program. The nurse provides information, facilitates counselling, tract mothers, and provides the vaccination (Campaign, 2012). Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services Program The Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services (CBCHS), launched a national campaign to bring awareness to HIV testing, reduce the cost of treatment and to promote research (Njozing, Miguel, Tih & Hurting, 2010). Several health care providers and counsellors visited health facilities, six hospitals, and clinics to provide treatment, counselling, and obtain consent counselling (Njozing et. al., 2010). The campaign was marketed by health care providing going from hospitals to hospitals. For those who wanted testing, a written consent was obtained. Individuals who received testing, post counselling was provided regardless of the results and held in strict confidentiality (Njozing, et. al., 2010).

HEALTH ADVOCACY CAMPAIGN 5 A survey was conducted to evaluate the success. Of the 2270 individual, 2150 accepted testing, 120 refused (Njozing et. al., 2010). The CBCHS initiative was successful because of the participation in testing, and counselling bringing awareness to HIV and early intervention. The program focus its promotion by assigning health care workers to various clinics to provide information on promoting awareness of HIV/AIDS, advertisement on radio and flyers were done on a weekly basis.
