Harmon, 2012). This theme is usually form by using one main character, a simple setting, and
plot (Martinez, Harmon, 2012). Traditional literature’s history is endless and these books/ stories

have been passed down from generation to generation. Often times these stories are told orally
and passed down through word of mouth, these usually consist of myths and other various forms
of folklore. These stories been told by a variety of ethnicities as far back mid-18
th
century as a
way of trying to teach adolescences life lessons and cultural history (Armistead, 2011). These life
lessons would fall under the literary term of theme, also these stories consist of main characters
and is usually told in third person. Fantasy uses the cloaks of invisibility and other magical tools,
dragons, gnomes and guardian spirits, werewolves and vampires to entice its readers (Leppalahti,
2018). When selecting books that fall under these genres for my class I will first evaluate each
student’s reading level as well as their individual interest. I also want to make ensure that the
books I am providing meet the curriculum and state requirements. I want my students to enjoy
reading while also gaining academic knowledge.
