o Gatsby and Nick have a conversation; Gatsby wants to “repeat the past” with Daisy, but Nick doesn’t think that is possible. · Chapter 7 o Gatsby has stopped throwing parties, and he has fired all of his servants because Daisy comes over often, and he doesn’t want rumors to start. o Gatsby and Daisy are ready to tell Tom, and they want Nick and Jordan to be there for support. o Before lunch, Tom is talking to George about the car, but Daisy thinks he is talking to Myrtle. o While at the Buchanan house, Tom finally sees that Daisy and Gatsby have something going on. o They all decide that it’s so hot that they need to go to town and rent a hotel room. o Tom, Nick, and Jordan ride to town in Gatsby’s car, and Gatsby and Daisy ride to town in Tom’s car. o After Tom stops at Wilson’s for gas, he learns that George and Myrtle are planning on moving because George has found out that Myrtle is having an affair, but he doesn’t know it is with Tom. o Tensions rise in the hotel room as Tom and Gatsby start to exchange words. o Even though Daisy isn’t 100% comfortable with it, Gatsby tells Tom that Daisy never loved him and is leaving him for Gatsby. o Initially, Daisy agrees that she never loved Tom, but she later admits that she did love both Tom and Gatsby. o Tom then tells everyone that Gatsby and Wolfshiem bought a bunch of drug stores and sell alcohol over the counter, among many other illegal activities to make money. o After hearing this, Daisy no longer wants to be with Gatsby; she wants to go back home with Tom.

o Feeling confident that Daisy is now his, Tom tells Daisy and Gatsby to head back to Long Island in Gatsby’s car, and he will drive Nick and Jordan back in his car. o Myrtle thinks that Tom is driving Gatsby’s car, so she runs out for Tom to save her. o Daisy doesn’t stop and unintentionally kills her due to the oncoming traffic; Daisy doesn’t care to stop and see what happened. o Nick is starting to get very irritated with everyone in New York, even Gatsby at this point. o Gatsby is waiting outside of Tom and Daisy’s house to make sure she is safe, but Nick looks in the window to see Tom and Daisy “conspiring” together. · Chapter 8 o Later that night, Nick stays up to warn Gatsby that they saw his car. o Nick hangs out at Gatsby’s for a long time, and Gatsby opens up about the truth about his past.
