Pope Francis is not as radical as some suggest. He is not completely transforming the identity of the Catholic Church as he maintains many important Catholic traditional teachings. Including the controversial issues of gay marriage in the Catholic Church and abortion. The Pope hasn’t completely taken the Church into the secular world, but has made changes to help address some of the opposition to the Church. It will be interesting to see if Pope Francis makes any changes in his ideas of gay marriage and abortion. These two ideas are very strict in the Catholic faith. But as the secular world continues to embrace these ideas more, will the Pope be pressured into changing the stance of the Church? Pope Francis has already showed acceptance of those of the LGBT community, it will be interesting to see how far he may come. Many strict theological scholars see Pope Francis as radical and see some of his ideas of inclusion and forgiveness as too extreme. However, Pope Francis’s papacy comes at difficult time. The world has never been so diverse. The Pope has had to lead by example and show diversity is accepted.
